In exceptionally simple terms, there are three chief strategies employed. You need to be able to hop between tactics almost instantly as the course of the game unfolds.
The Blockade
This is composed of building a 6-thick wall of checkers, or at a minimum as deep as you are able to achieve, to block in your opponent’s pieces that are located on your 1-point. This is considered to be the most acceptable procedure at the start of the match. You can build the wall anyplace inbetween your eleven-point and your 2-point and then move it into your home board as the game progresses.
The Blitz
This is comprised of closing your home board as quick as as you can while keeping your opposer on the bar. For example, if your opponent rolls an early two and shifts one piece from your 1-point to your 3-point and you then toss a five-five, you will be able to play 6/1 six/one eight/three eight/three. Your challenger is then in big-time trouble taking into account that they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have locked half your inner board!
The Backgame
This plan is where you have two or more checkers in your competitor’s inner board. (An anchor spot is a position occupied by at a minimum 2 of your checkers.) It needs to be used when you are decidedly behind as it much improves your circumstances. The best places for anchor spots are towards your opponent’s lower points and also on adjacent points or with a single point separating them. Timing is essential for a competent backgame: besides, there is no reason having 2 nice anchor spots and a solid wall in your own home board if you are then forced to break apart this straight away, while your competitor is getting their pieces home, seeing that you do not have any other additional pieces to move! In this situation, it is better to have pieces on the bar so that you might maintain your position until your competitor provides you an opportunity to hit, so it may be a wonderful idea to attempt and get your competitor to hit them in this situation!
