In extraordinarily simple terms, there are 3 chief game plans employed. You must be agile enough to hop between tactics almost instantly as the action of the match unfolds.
The Blockade
This is comprised of assembling a 6-thick wall of pieces, or at a minimum as thick as you might manage, to lock in the competitor’s checkers that are located on your 1-point. This is considered to be the most adequate course of action at the start of the game. You can build the wall anyplace within your 11-point and your two-point and then shuffle it into your home board as the match advances.
The Blitz
This is composed of closing your home board as fast as as you can while keeping your opponent on the bar. e.g., if your competitor tosses an early two and shifts one piece from your 1-point to your 3-point and you then toss a 5-5, you will be able to play six/one 6/1 eight/three eight/three. Your challenger is now in big-time calamity taking into account that they have two checkers on the bar and you have closed half your inside board!
The Backgame
This plan is where you have 2 or higher anchors in your opponent’s inner board. (An anchor is a point consisting of at least two of your pieces.) It must be played when you are extremely behind as it much improves your circumstances. The strongest areas for anchor spots are near your opponent’s lower points and also on adjoining points or with one point separating them. Timing is integral for an effective backgame: at the end of the day, there is no reason having 2 nice anchor spots and a complete wall in your own inner board if you are then required to break apart this right away, while your opposer is shifting their pieces home, owing to the fact that you don’t have any other extra pieces to move! In this situation, it is more tolerable to have checkers on the bar so that you are able to preserve your position up till your challenger provides you a chance to hit, so it can be a great idea to attempt and get your opponent to get them in this situation!
